Description

Golden Greek Honey Pie, or Melopita, is a sumptuous dessert that perfectly captures the essence of Mediterranean flavors. This delightful pie features layers of crispy phyllo dough enveloping a creamy semolina filling, infused with aromatic honey and spice.


Ingredients

  • 8 sheets phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semolina flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup honey, warmed
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish (9×13 inches).
  2. Layer 7 sheets of phyllo in the dish, brushing each with melted butter.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together semolina flour, eggs, sugar, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the filling over the phyllo base and top with one more sheet of phyllo brushed with butter.
  5. Lightly score the top layer and bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cool for about 10 minutes before drizzling with warmed honey and sprinkling sesame seeds.
