Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup liquid glucose (or light corn syrup)
  • Few drops black gel food coloring
  • 6 Granny Smith apples (or 12 small apples)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a greased baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  2. Insert bamboo skewers into each apple and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, liquid glucose, and black gel food coloring over medium heat.
  4. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and wash down the sides of the pot with a wet brush.
  5. Cook until the mixture reaches hard crack stage (150ºC/310ºF).
  6. Dip each apple into the caramel mixture, ensuring full coverage.
  7. Place dipped apples on the prepared baking sheet and allow them to cool completely before serving.
